Over 7000 teachers throughout the Sindh held protests meetings at colleges and wore black armbands as the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) observed a black day on Tuesday, according to a press release issued here.
In their protest meetings they put number of demands including payment of 40 percent medical allowance and de-freezing of house rent allowance and its fixation at 60 percent before the Sindh governor, chief minister and education minister.
The teachers demanded more than 500 promotions under four-grade formula, promotions of 150 DPEs and issuance of orders for moveovers in more than 500 cases.
In addition to that they demanded the restoration of Sindh Teachers Foundation and College Teachers Academy and appointments on more than 1000 posts of lecturers lying vacant through Sindh Public Service Commission.
The teachers demanded termination of contracts of retired officers working at administrative posts and appointments of in-service officials in their place. They further asked dismissal of EDO Sukkur Rafia Naz Pathan.
Office bearers of SPLA Professor Manzoor Hussain Chishti, Professor Mirza Ather Hussain, Professor Najamul Islam, Professor Sarfraz Ali Khan and Professor Muhammad Akber Khan visited various colleges and addressed to teachers' meetings.
The teachers reaffirmed their resolve to continue the movement till the acceptance of their demands.
Meanwhile, the meeting of SPLA Karachi region was held at the Adamjee Government Science College.
The SPLA office bearers demanded the provincial government to issue orders for resolving problems of teachers and warned that protest meetings would be held from February 9 at all district headquarters of the province and demonstrations would be staged at District Nazims' offices, otherwise.
