Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has emphasised the need for stronger co-ordination between the federation and the provinces regarding media affairs so that the people could be fully informed about the programmes and activities of the government.
He said that the democratic government was answerable to the people through media, so the government-media apparatus should fully report about the activities of the government.
The prime minister was presiding over a high-level meeting here. PML President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, Balochis-tan Chief Minister Jam Mohammad Yousuf, federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Sheikh Rashid and Information Secretary Syed Anwar Mehmood attended the meeting.
Prime Minister Jamali said media was free to report and should inform the public about the developmental activities of the provincial governments. He reiterated the government's commitment to uphold freedom of expression in the country, as it constituted one of the fundamental rights of the people.
He said that the print and electronic media enjoys unprecedented freedom in the history of the press in Pakistan.
