The rupee on Tuesday inched up with a modest gain of two paisa in the interbank market for buying and selling at Rs 57.27 and Rs 57.30, respectively.
The comfortable supply of the dollars and lack of interest in dollars trading helped the rupee gain further ground, dealers said, while the profit-taking in euros trade pushed its value down against the dollar and the yen in the international markets.
INTERBANK RATES: The rupee shed five paisa against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 57.25 and Rs 57.35, respectively.
Versus the euro, the rupee, however, gained seven paisa for buying at Rs 71.23 and 50 paisa for selling at Rs 71.53 due to falling its value in the world markets, dealers said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee showed stability, as the dollar-rupee parity remained unchanged amid sluggish trading trend in the local currency markets on Tuesday.
The dollars' demand and supply situation remained intact mainly on account of lacking buying interest. The dollar commenced trading at Monday's closing rates of Rs 57.15 and Rs 57.25 on buying and selling counters, respectively. The opening rates continued to prevail throughout the day. In the absence of any fluctuation in greenback's value, most of the investors remained on the sidelines, which resulted in low turnover, the currency dealers said.
However, the rupee registered a significant gain in relation to the pound sterling mainly due to selling pressure. As a result, the pound's buying rate declined from Monday's Rs 104.90 to Rs 103.10, while selling rate decreased from Rs 105.20 to Rs 103.45, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee was up by 25-paisa against the dollar on the currency exchange establishments of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Tuesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 57.20 (buying) and Rs 57.30 (selling) against the last rates of Rs 57.45 (buying) and Rs 57.55 (selling). It did not show any further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 57.20 (buying) and Rs 57.30 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 103 (buying) and Rs 103.20 against the last rates of Rs 105.80 (buying) and Rs 105.90 (selling). It did not observe any further change in the second session and closed at Rs 103 (buying) and Rs 103.20 (selling).
Canadian dollar opened at Rs 44.15 (buying) and Rs 44.55 (selling) against the same previous rates. It did not observe any further change in the second spell and closed at Rs 44.15 (buying) and Rs 44.55 (selling).
