Partly Facetious: Mian Sahib ought to know better

"Mian Sahib has threatened to come back. So has Mian Sahib Junior Most."
Published January 29, 2004

"Mian Sahib has threatened to come back. So has Mian Sahib Junior Most."
"What has Mian Sahib Senior Most said about these plans?"
"Who? Abbaji?"
"Yes. Isn't he the decision maker in that household?"
"Yes, but he never went public - I mean it isn't as if his statements were ever carried in the Press or anything but you know it must be hard for him to see his sons getting so bored just sitting in that gilded cage..I mean safety is nice but then you have to do something."
"Besides living as they do with their families day in day out..I mean that was one thing the two brothers never did while in Pakistan - they never spent too much time with their families.."
"I heard of them acquiring other families..."
"Don't be facetious you know in our politics people do come back, and the Mian Sahibs never ever forget a slight - real or imagined"
"Its not a slight. I mean half of the men of this world would wish to have the kind of lives they led while in power."
"But Sir Sheikh in his true style, with a loudness that can't be beat, and with a loyalty that reeks of lotaism, said of his former masters: if they come back they will be arrested."
"OK let's drop it. Was rather sad about the stupidity of our politicians. Why are they defending scientists who sold nuclear secrets to Iran and North Korea for their personal gain. I mean that is hardly being a hero! These guys are crooks - they could have got the entire country into trouble - I mean what if US planes had come and bombed the site then what! I mean I can understand the Maulanas' anger they really know not what they do at this stage of their political history but Mian Sahib and party ought to know better."
"Yeah silly I agree...I was rather sad too with some news. About poodle winning the vote by a margin of 5."
"The vote on top up fees for universities?"
"Yes. You know I really don't like the guy but I do think that its not a bad idea. Maybe we need to have top up fees as well so that the rich who go to our universities can help pay for the poor."
"Don't think it will work - we now have the concept of private universities some of which are as expensive as sending your children to the US or the UK. So it's mostly the middle class or the poor who are still going to state run universities."
"Oh well. His luck will change. Has to in the end."
"Whose?"
"Poodle's, and Mian Sahib's - ooops sorry, Mian Sahib's has changed already."
