LONDON: Chris Eubank Jr has failed in his bid to represent Great Britain's boxing team at the Rio Olympics later this year.
Eubank's father, the former fighter Chris Eubank Sr, made the move on behalf of the reigning British middleweight champion following world governing body AIBA's decision to allow professionals to compete at the Olympics.
But Britain's Antony Fowler had already qualified for the Games in the 75kg category, so Eubank's only chance would be to go as a light-welterweight or welterweight, which would almost certainly be beyond him.
"We can confirm that we have had enquiries from people claiming to represent Chris Eubank Jr," a GB Boxing spokesman said on Tuesday.
"We explained that the qualification process for Rio 2016 has been going on for several months and that Great Britain has already qualified a boxer in the middleweight (75kg) category, Antony Fowler, and that he will represent Team GB in that weight class at the Olympic Games this summer."
