Afghanistan has imposed duty slabs on 150 imported items across-the-board without giving any concession to any country, said Ashraf Ghani, Finance Minister of Afghanistan.
Addressing a press conference after the ECO Finance/Economic Ministers' meeting, he was responding to a question on the new duties imposed.
He said that a complete framework of taxes has been put in place after overhauling of the taxation system.
Four slabs have been introduced in categories of 2.5 percent, 5 percent, 10 percent and 16 percent, and would simplify the procedures that earlier needed a 25-pages document, and now only a single page information would be given to the government of Afghanistan.
Apart from the said duties, on capital goods 4 percent duty has been imposed, and on finished goods 8 percent duty has been levied.
There has been no discrimination on the general rates for any country, said Ghani.
There has been no zero rate in the new structure of Afghan tax system. Zero rated system has not proven fruitful for the country, he added.
