Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated here on Sunday, February 1 in the United States, according to Islamic Center sources.
Eid congregations will be held at different places in Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia, as elsewhere in America. Special prayers will be offered for invoking blessings of Allah Almighty for peace, unity and prosperity of all the faithful, socio-economic uplift, peace and stability of Pakistan; and peace, security and prosperity of the adopted homeland of the United States.
There is a sizeable Muslim community in the United States.
Being weekly holiday, more citizens are likely to attend the prayers.
The offering of animal sacrifice is restricted to designated slaughter houses, the practice being that cattleheads are booked in advance through 'Halal shops' and these are collected by decided date and time.
The community celebrates Eid by visiting each others' houses, or attending special Eid parties, and inviting friends. President George. W. Bush has been issuing Eid messages felicitating the Muslims on the eve of festivity, and reiterating that the United States offers equal religious freedom to all faiths to practice their rituals.
