The NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah (Retd), on the second day of his two-day tour of North Waziristan Agency, on Saturday inaugurated the up-gradation of Government Commercial Institute Miran Shah to the College of Management Sciences, the first of its kind in Fata.
He also performed the ground breaking of an additional building for the college, adjacent to the existing building.
The governor during a briefing on the project directed certain amendment in the design and stressed that both the buildings should be mutually integrated and it should also have a sufficient open space for sports activities.
The governor also directed to minimise the cost, which is estimated to be Rs 9.664 millions.
Later, he also visited the Government Degree College Miran Shah where he inaugurated the newly established computer laboratory.
He, while inspecting the laboratory, suggested that the facility could also be utilised to teach the science student in different subject by arranging different software and programmes accordingly. The laboratory is equipped with 20 computers, ten each in two rooms.
The governor was informed that the laboratory would facilitate the students of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year computer science, totalling about seventy at present.
Talking to the members of the college staff the governor said that the college would be very soon upgraded to the postgraduate level.
Similarly, he added, we are opening two more colleges in the agency, one in Shewa to strengthen the education base so as the postgraduate status of the college could benefit more students. Later the governor also planted a sapling of Persian Pine in the lawn of the college.
The governor also paid a detailed visit to the Agency Headquarters Hospital and inspected various sections of the hospital including operation theatre, male and female wards, medical store and OPD.
He also talked to the indoor patients and apprised himself of those facilities, which are being provided to the patients.
He also performed the ground breaking of the doctors hostel in the vicinity of the hospital that would cost Rs 9.9 millions.
He also inaugurated the eye care unit in the hospital, established under the comprehensive eye care programme. The governor was given a briefing on the eye care facilities in the hospital.
He was informed that such units have been established in all the seven tribal agencies and the share of the expenditures on the programme in Fata is more than 70 percent.
The units are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and are providing preventive, curative and rehabilitative services.
The governor also issued directives to the authorities about the rehabilitation of the hospital building and said that a master plan should be prepared for implementation in phases and services of a reputed consultant should be hired for this purpose. The building should be multi-storey having all the required facilities. During inspection of the hospital store the governor inspected the medicines.
He was informed that 80 to 90 percent patients are provided free medicines from the store.
Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah also visited the Government High School Miran Shah where he performed the ground breaking for the reconstruction of the school building with an estimated cost of Rs 11.9 millions.
Covering an area of 50 kanals, the new building will comprise of primary and high school blocks having 14 and 16 class rooms respectively besides a playground, three labs and a multi purpose hall.
The governor also inaugurated the NADRA Swift Registration Centre at Miran Shah. During the inspection of the centre the Director General NADRA Brigadier Anwar Khan (Retd) briefed the governor on the performance of the centre.
Earlier the governor was given a detailed briefing by the agency Political Agent Sherzada Khan on the development activities in North Waziristan Agency.
