British High Commissioner to Pakistan Mark Lyall Grant and Ambassador of European Union Ilkka Uusitalo accompanied by their team on Saturday paid a private visit to Lakki and Bannu districts of NWFP.
Leading a five-member delegation, Ilkka Uusitalo, who is also head of European Commission for Pakistan visited under construction District Headquarters Hospital, Lakki, Lakki Cement Plant at Pezu and Women and Children hospital at Ghazni Khel.
Addressing a function of Nazims, Naib Nazims and elite in Urdu language, the British High Commissioner Mark Lyall Grant said, he has great love and regards for this area as before partition, his grandfather lived here for quite long time.
The city of Lyallpur in Punjab, now Faisalabad, was named after him, he disclosed.
Mark Lyall expressed the hope that Pakistan would achieve a distinguished position among comity of nations during the present regime.
Secretary General PML, Salim Saifullah Khan in his welcome address on the occasion, thanked Mark Lyall Grant, Ilkka Uusitalo and Peter Water Worth, Political Consular at UK High Commission Islamabad for visiting remote and backward Lakki district.
The visit could become harbinger of investment by the European investors in this part of the country, he hoped.
Nazim Lakki District, Humayun Saifullah Khan on the occasion briefed the visiting European ambassadors about the mega projects started by the local government for the development of the area.
He particularly mentioned about Kurram Tangi Dam, which would be sufficient to cater the needs of the area for about 150 years with regard to agriculture development.
The delegation had a detailed round of the Lakki Cement Factory and went round its various sections.
The factory has 6000 tons production capacity per day and it is being mulled to raise it to 9500 tons.
The delegation was informed that apart from paying in the provincial kitty, the Lakki Cement plant is contributing Rs 1 billion to the national exchequer.
