Senior Director General, Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Abid Javed Akbar has disclosed that current year is the last year for textile quota system and government is amending the SRO and intended to provide more facilities and relaxation to exporters in world market so that they could compete the other countries.
He was speaking at a luncheon hosted by All Pakistan Bed-sheets & Upholstery Manufacturers Association (APBUMA) here on Friday.
He said that government was providing a guideline to the exporters to meet challenges of WTO regime and all anomalies in post quota system would be removed on top priority basis and security deposits issue would be resolved with the consent of association.
He further said that audit of exports for 2002-03 was suspended due to non-availability of relevant record.
To a question, he said issues of textile security, carry forwards of quota, over programming, over shipment, audit memos and quota auction would also be resolved with the consultation of APBUMA.
Earlier, Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi, former Chairman of APBUMA said that in year 2003, 50 percent of over programming was deducted from different categories, and government should allow exporters to utilise this quota during 2004.
Mughis Ahmed Shaikh, an industrialist, said that EPB should resolve problem of quota utilisation on top priority basis.
Khawaja Muhammad Farooq, Khawaja Muhammad Azam, Khawaja Muhammad Younas Vice Chairman of Multan Dry Port Trust, Anwar Salim cane, Munir Ahmed Shaikh, Amer Qureshi also attended the luncheon.
