Speaker National Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain said on Monday that committee system of the National Assembly will become operational in the next couple of days with the appointment of chairmen of the standing committees.
Any member who wants to change his membership of the committee to which he has been appointed "may get in touch with me. I can change it because I am empowered to do so", he said at a seminar on the performance of women members in the first year of the parliament. The moot was organised by the non-governmental organisation.
The speaker urged the opposition not to make the yet to undertaken task of appointment of committees' chairman as pretext to boycott the next session of the National Assembly, adding "Nothing is permanent in politics."
Amir Hussain was of the view that during the last parliamentary year the house could not perform to its full potential as it was overwhelmed by the issue of LFO.
Now that obstruction is out of the way and democratic process is well underway in the service of the people of Pakistan, he added.
He opposed the notion of political victimisation as such thinking is against the norms of democracy. "We should believe that our opponents are as good patriots as we are", he said.
