Federal Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz has held very useful and productive discussion with British Chancellor of the Exchequer on ways to further enhance economic co-operation between the two countries.
Britain is the major donor to Islamabad and gives nearly 60 million sterling pounds to it, he told APP after the meeting here on Thursday.
During the discussion, Shaukat Aziz discussed with Gordon Brown how this assistance could be enhanced. Pakistan's High Commissioner to the UK Dr Maleeha Lodhi was present during the meeting.
Shaukat Aziz said that the particular areas focused during the meeting included the capacity building in the financial service area and to seek Britain's assistance to train Pakistani personnel.
They also identified areas for the co-operation, which included anti-money laundering and development assistance.
Aziz said they also discussed economic reforms in Pakistan and Gordon Brown appreciated the improvement in Pakistan's economy and the overall structured reform agenda being pursued by the government.
Gordon Brown appreciated Shaukat Aziz's contribution to the improvement of the economy and Brown was very responsive to the briefing by him on the economic reforms being pursued by Islamabad. Brown asked many questions about the next phase of Pakistan's economic reforms.
He congratulated Shaukat Aziz on the successful launching of $500 million Eurobonds, which were oversubscribed four times.
