The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Thursday seized 1.5 million fake currency notes and arrested two persons involved in illegal business.
Briefing the newsmen Malik Naveed, Director FIA, said that they had received information about the shipment of huge quantity of fake currency from Bara to Karachi via flight from Peshawar Airport.
In this regard two officers of FIA was selected to travel in flight along with smugglers and crack the gang, he said adding that Tariq Pervez and Jamil Khan of FIA travelled in same plane.
The FIA Peshawar branch contacted the Karachi corporate circle and asked to help in arresting the smugglers, he maintained.
He informed that Fahim Ahmad, son of Kaptan, who travelled from Peshawar, met with his accomplice identified as Johar Ali, son of Amir Ali, a resident of Karachi, near Quaid mausoleum and handed over currency notes.
The sleuths caught both the alleged accused red handed and recovered 1.5 million fake currency from their possession.
The official said that they had also recovered stolen State Bank currency note papers which were stolen from the Security Printing Press of the State Bank.
He said that security guards and other officials of the State Bank were involved in steeling the original currency note papers.
The FIA has lodged an FIR against the alleged culprits and started investigation in the case.
