District Nazim, Lahore, Amer Mahmood, has announced the launching of post-graduate evening classes in Economics, Psychology, English, Environmental Science, Business Administration and English on no-profit-no-loss basis at the M A O College.
He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of electronic library and newly rebuilt mosque at the college here on Friday.
Executive District Officer Education Dr Muhammad Asghar, Principal Professor Syed Maqsood-ul-Hassan Bukhari and a large number of teachers and students were also present on the occasion.
Amer ordered construction of boundary wall of the college playground spread over an area of 71 kanal. Besides launching a special operation for removal of encroachments from its premises, he directed for providing alternative entry gate for the college.
He directed formulating of rules so that expenditures could be met from college fund of Rs 10 million on the occasion.
He said that pace of work must be expedited on under-construction Post-graduate Block, which is being completed at a cost of Rs 17 million.
Amer Mahmood regretted the fact that after nationalisation of educational institutions in 1974, no new college could be established in the city.
The City District Government made practical efforts for withdrawal of notification of denationalisation by Punjab Government as higher education had become inaccessible for ordinary students in the wake of award of autonomous status to Government College Lahore and return of Forman Christian College to its former owners.
He said that teachers and students of Govt F C College without delay be provided alternative building in Township area for continuing academic activities. It was up to them now to establish image of this institution in the city, he added.
The District Nazim said that CDGL was making earnest efforts for enhancing goodwill of M A O College in the society and it had provided financial assistance worth Rs 40 million to the college during the past two years, he added.
