The President, General Pervez Musharraf and the Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali have directed for providing immediate relief to the earthquake affected people in Mansehra and Batagram districts in the NWFP.
They expressed their deep grief and sorrow over the loss of lives and property by the earthquake.
They assured the affected people that the government will take all necessary steps to mitigate their sufferings. Meanwhile relief and rescue operations have started in the earthquake hit areas.
The Cabinet Division has sent one thousand blankets for the affected people. The consignment was dispatched on Sunday on the request of the NWFP government.
People of the area say that efforts to reach the affected people have been hampered by the landslides and the freezing temperature last night.
Lot of people was left without shelter in freezing temperature. Much of the area is blanketed with snow and the houses built with timber, mud and stones.
