The NWFP Minister for Local Government Sardar Mohammad Idrees has appreciated the efforts of the local and federal governments for provision of relief goods for earthquake victims.
Talking to PTV he appreciated the local, provincial and federal government in connection with provision of relief goods and their efforts for quick rehabilitation of the earthquake victims.
He said Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani formed a committee and sent relief goods to the victims.
The CM also sent him (Idrees) and provincial Information Minister Asif Iqbal to assess the magnitude of damage on the spot.
Sardar Idrees said the provincial government immediately announced a sum of Rs 20,000 to injured persons and Rs 100,000 to the immediate relatives of the deceased.
Idrees appealed to the federal government for further help to mitigate sufferings of the quake victims.
Director General Emergency Relief Cell, Cabinet Division Brig Sarfraz Khan (Retd) said the cell has been maintaining a close liaison with the local authorities and so far despatched 250 tents and 2,600 blankets.
On requirement, more goods could be sent within a short notice of six to seven hours. Necessary items were sufficient in stock, he added.
District Nazim Batgram Ataullah Khan Taranda giving details of casualties in his area said 14 persons have been killed and three injured including one woman and two minor girls. Cabinet relief cell has despatched 2,100 blankets and 100 tents, which are being dispersed.
More jolts were being persistently felt and people were frightened to go back to their homes to avoid any further mishap, the District Nazim added.
District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Mansehra Hussain Zada Khan said that about 1,600 houses have been damaged in his area and the most serious problem were damaged houses, which have apparently become unable to live.
Provincial government has sent 200 tents while 1,000 blankets were received from federal cabinet cell.
