A light aircraft used by a candidate to distribute campaign leaflets ahead of Friday's parliamentary elections crashed in northern Iran on Tuesday, killing the pilot, the state news agency IRNA reported.
"The candidate survived and he is currently in hospital and in good condition, but the pilot died," said Mehdi Masrour, a local official in the town of Kajour, north of Tehran and near the Caspian Sea.
IRNA said the crash was probably caused by either technical failures or a collision with a electricity pylon. The report did not say which political camp the candidate was from.
