In a bid to promote diversified art and designs of Punjab and to encourage talent and skills of young girls, the Social Welfare and Women Development Department Punjab in collaboration with the provincial Bait-ul-Maal and City District Government Lahore organised a Social Welfare Arts and Crafts Exhibition 2004.
Social Welfare and Women Development Director General Mazhar Ali Khan told Business Recorder here on Thursday that handicrafts have been exhibited from across the province. Work of young girls was put on display in the exhibition.
The talented young girls have got training from different non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
After getting necessary training, these young girls have been able to earn their livelihood in a respectable manner, he said.
NGOs have set up as many as 100 stalls in the exhibition from across Punjab like Mianwali, Okara, Bhakkar, Sheikhupura, etc.
Mazhar Ali said that the Social Welfare Department intended to establish a close liaison between District Industrial Homes and Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
He invited the EPB director exports and office-bearers of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) to attend the exhibition so as to encourage women entrepreneurs engaged in this business.
Anjuman Rafah-e-Amah Member Razia Sultana expressed her satisfaction over the arrangements made for the exhibition.
She said that the event would go a long way in enabling the trained girls to become financially strong.
She said that they were initiating computer classes in a bid to promote information technology among the girls.
