Taiwan stocks end higher on technology shares

Taiwan stocks closed higher on Wednesday as heavily weighted technology shares like flat panel display maker AU Optronics rebounded on solid fundamentals, defying recent weakness on Wall Street.
The TAIEX share index ended up a provisional 0.87 percent before officially closing up 0.84 percent at 6,644.28, rebounding from a brief consolidation period after hitting a 40-month high last week.
Five major flat panel display makers topped the eight most actively traded list, shining on expected solid first-quarter profits as product prices remained high.
AU Optronics, the world's third largest flat panel display maker, jumped 4.81 percent to T$54.50, while rival Chunghwa Picture Tubes, the most active share, surged the daily seven percent limit to T$18.20.
