The City Police have notified the traffic arrangements from February 29 to March 2,on the eve of Ashura.
The main procession on 8th Muharram (February 29) will start at 1100 hours from Nishter Park via the following routes; Nishter Park, Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto road, Father Jaminis road, Mehfil-e-Khurasan, M. A. Jinnah road, Mansfield Street, Preedy Street again M. A. Jinnah road, Thatai Compound, Adamjee Budha Bhoy road, Baba-e-Urdu road, Nishter road, Bara Imam, Altaf Hussain road, (old Napier road) M. A. Jinnah road, Boulton Market, Bombay Bazar, Nawab Mahabat Khanjee road to Hussainian Iranian Imambargah.
A Shia Alam procession will depart from Markazi Imambargah Liaquatabad on 9th Muharram (March 1).
This procession will proceed to Martin road Imambargah and thereafter it will come to Nishter Park where majalis will be held.
At 1200 hours the procession will be taken out from Nishter Park for Iranian Hussainian Imambargah, Kharadar, via the following routes; Nishter Park, Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto road, Father Jaminis road, Mehfil-e-Shah-e-Khurasan, M. A. Jinnah road, Mansfield Street Preedy Street.
The procession will again proceed from M. A. Jinnah Road, Boulton Market, Bombay Bazar, Kharadar, Nawab Mahabat Khanjee road, to Hussainian Iranian Imambargah.
The night Procession on 9th Muharram (March 1); Tazia's will be carried out through out the city.
The following traffic arrangement will be made; all buses approaching Saddar from Jamshed road will proceed straight onto M. A. Jinnah road and will not be permitted to come on to Mansfield street after 2200 hours.
Similarly, the buses coming from city on Shahara-e-Liaquat bound from the colonies Via Empress Market will be diverted on to Muhammad Bin Qasim road/M.A. Jinnah road, the buses for Malir and Shahra-e-Qasim will be diverted onto Court road, Maulana Wafai road (old Stratchen road) A. H. road, M.W. road to Shahra-e- Faisal.
All buses from Korangi side bound for Saddar will be diverted back from the junction of Mansfield street/Rafique Shaheed road/Sarwar Shaheed road (Lucky Star).
Area bound by Preedy Street, M. A. Jinnah road, Mansfield street and Shahra-e-Iraq will be closed to all vehicles by 2000 hours or earlier if needed. The residents of the area will, however, be permitted to reach their homes. All buses bound for M.W. Tower from Lea Market and other colonies will use the following route.
Aga Khan road, Dalumal Chela road, Mir Mohd Baloch road and Shidi Village road.
A largely attended Majlis will be held at Nishter Park from 0730 hours to 0900 hours on 10th Muharram (March 2), from where a main procession will start and proceed to Hussainian Iranian Imambargah.
As soon as this procession will start, all the vehicular traffic coming from the city would be diverted to Soldier Bazar Road from the junction of M. A. Jinnah Road and Dr Dawoodpota Road.
All traffic on Soldier Bazar Road from its junction with Dr Dawoodpota road up to its junction with Khan Bahadur Naqi Muhammad Khan road shall flow one way.
All transport including buses, minibuses, and trucks etc coming from Nazimabad side will be diverted on to Nishter road towards Zoological Garden to reach their destinations.
All buses, cars, minibuses and trucks coming from Liaquatabad side will be diverted onto Martin road towards Karachi Central Prison side. These vehicles shall, however, be permitted to proceed up to Central Prison and then proceed via Jamshed road, Dada Bhoy Noroji road, Kashmir road, Shahra-e-Quaideen, Shahra-Faisal up to Gora Qabristan and then via Mubarak Shaheed road, Iqbal Shaheed road, Lucky Star, Sarwar Shaheed road, Dr Dawoodpota road, Preedy Street to their normal route.
When the head of the procession reaches the junction of M. A. Jinnah road/Mansfield Street these vehicles shall proceed straight for 602 EME Workshop, Mubarak Shaheed Road, Iqbal Shaheed Road, Lucky Star, Sarwar Shaheed Road, Fatima Jinnah Road, Maulana Wafai Road (Old Stratchen Road), Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road, M. A. Jinnah road till the situation permits, and then these vehicles shall be diverted on to I.I. Chundrigar Road from the junction of Court Road /M.R. Kiyani Road.
Similarly, all buses minibuses approaching city from Stadium road side shall proceed via New M. A. Jinnah road. These vehicles shall be diverted to Dada Bhoy Noroji road towards Kashmir Road from its junction with New M. A. Jinnah Road /Link road behind Mazar Quaid-e-Azam.
All trucks, buses minibuses approaching from Super Highway side shall be diverted from Al-Azam Square towards Chowrangi No.2 Nazimabad and shall proceed along Estate Avenue road, Shershah to Mauripur road. For return journey these vehicles shall adopt the same route.
All buses, minibuses and trucks approaching from National Highway side shall proceed via Rashid Minhas road, Stadium road, Sir Muhammad Suleman road, Hasan Square, Liaquatabad No.10, Nazimabad Chowrangi No.2 Habib Bank, Manghopir road, Estate Avenue Road, Shershah, Mauripur road.
For return of procession these vehicles shall also adopt the same route.
All car traffic shall not be permitted to proceed towards the route of the procession from Guru Mandir (Roundabout).
These vehicles shall be diverted onto Bahadur Yar Jang road and again onto Khan Bahadur Naqi Muhammad Khan road.
Under no circumstances these vehicles shall be permitted to proceed along Soldier Bazar road from the junction of Khan Bahadur Naqi Muhammad Khan road /Bahadur Yar Jang road.
All car traffic coming for Quaid-e-Azam Mazar side along M. A. Jinnah road will be diverted towards Bahadur Yar Jang road.
No vehicular traffic will be permitted to proceed towards Numaish under any circumstances.
All vehicular traffic approaching Numaish via Shahra-e-Quaideen (except those arriving for participating in the procession having issued stickers posted on their windscreens) shall not be allowed from the roundabout of Shahra-e-Quaideen, Link Road behind Quaid's Mazar.
All traffic going towards Saddar and other colonies will not be permitted to proceed towards Empress Market from the junction of (1) Preedy Street/Sarmad road, (2) Preedy Street/M. A. Jinnah road (3) Shahra-e-Liaquat/ Court road and (4) Shahra-e-Liaquat/Mohammad Bin Qasim road when the head of the procession reaches near the crossing of M. A. Jinnah road /Mansfield street.
Similarly, all vehicular traffic proceeding towards Saddar via M. A. Jinnah road side shall not be permitted to proceed from its junction with Preedy Street and Agha Khan Road.
All traffic coming from Keamari side will be terminated at Ghas Bunder Railway Quarters and as soon as the head of the procession (Sunni procession) reaches at the junction of M. A. Jinnah road/Dunnolly road, these vehicles shall ply in shuttle service between Keamari to Railway Quarters, Ghas Bunder and M. A. Jinnah road.
All buses coming from West Wharf side and Mauripur road will terminate at the junction of Aga Khan road/Eduljee Dinshaw road. The traffic from West Wharf and Mauripur road will however be permitted to proceed via Aga Khan road /G. Allana road till the situation so prevents.
All traffic coming and bound from Keamari and Mauripur road from the side of M. T. Khan road will travel via Jinnah Bridge till the time head of the procession reaches at the junction of M. A. Jinnah road /Dunnolly road and thereafter, all the traffic will be suspended from the junction of M. T. Khan road/Jinnah bridge.
