All in a day's work! - Selling and purchasing junk......
Did u get your new identity card?
Ya, thank God, I did.
Great!
Have read that old NICs are no more valid!
Is this the reason that a local registration office has allegedly junked and sold thousands of application forms of NICs, computerized cards and photocopies of pictures of the applicants to a scrap seller.
What? Can't believe it!
Ya, It was reported in a leading paper on 20th February 2004 that a newsman during a visit to the new bus stand in Haripur city found an Afghan refugee selling old NICs, registration forms, photos of NIC holders, receipt books with complete biodata and photos of applicants for Rs 20 per kilo.
How could it be possible?
Does the man know the importance of material he was selling as junk?
No, he informed the newsman that he had bought three sacks full of this material from some unknown person at Rs 15 per kilo as scrap. He was not aware of what he was purchasing, poor fellow on way to make a meager profit of Rs 5 per kilogram.
It was reported that the newsman found over 40 new computerized identity cards prepared by Nadra local office in 2001, valid up to 2010.
So the data base scrap is sold onward to the junk dealer in the open market.
Must be result of a cleanliness drive at local data base office!
Has the material been taken into safe custody now ?
The Afghan selling the scrap has packed the material and disappeared !
Meaning it is still open to misuse by miscreants!
Do u know that Pakistan has rejected Australian wheat?
Wheat or sheep?
I think it was quite sometime back when the astray ship of Australian sheep was offered to Pakistan?
No, I was not referring to the Australian sheep; this time it is Australian wheat!
Australian wheat ? I don't get u?
Why do we in the first place need Australian wheat?
To fill short-fall and build strategic reserves!
Even after the Ministry of Agriculture assessment regarding availability of two million tonnes of wheat in the domestic market?
Ya, it was stated that it would be enough till fresh domestic supply in March 2004.
My dear, it was reported that Pakistan agreed to buy 150,000 tonnes of wheat from Australian Wheat Board through a tender in December, 2003 at an unprecedented price of $ 224.75 a tonne.
Means, there exists shortage of wheat in our files justifying imports!
Ya seems so!
Can't understand, will u explain?
It is simple, u sometimes feel exhausted!
Feel exhausted?
Ya, I mean by criticizing the government policies all the time.
True!
May be u r right!
By the way what's new now?
Nothing! Was just trying to find out the rationale, why it was decided to import wheat from Australia instead of neighboring countries?
It must be cheaper to buy from Australia!
It was reported that wheat could be imported from India at $ 185 per tonne with far lower transportation cost.
That's a real question!
Two cargoes of Australian wheat totalling around 80,000 tonnes were contaminated by the karnal bunt fungus.
Really!
Ya, not fit for human consumption!
U mean to say it was junk?
