Federal Minister for Privatisation and Investment, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh will chair a meeting of the Senate's Special Committee on 'Challenges of WTO' on March 6.
The 16-member Special Committee headed by Senator Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh was constituted by the House on September 22, 2003, on a resolution moved by Senator Chaudhary Mohammad Anwar Bhinder to suggest ways and means to face the challenges of WTO coming into force next year, says an official handout.
The SSC had so far gathered proposals from the representatives of Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FPCCI), All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma), Food, Agriculture and Livestock sectors, State Engineering Corporation, Pakistan Engineering Development Board, Pakistan Automobile Motors Association and the Pharmaceutical Association.
They have made presentations on challenges confronting Pakistan's engineering, automobile and pharmaceutical industries in the wake of WTO regime and their solutions in previous meetings.
In its forthcoming meeting the committee will seek the views of the experts who will brief on WTO. The experts include Dr Mohammad Zubair Khan, Dr Ashfaque H. Khan and Mohammad Saleem.
The members of the Special Committee include Senators Professor Khurshid Ahmed, Mushahid Hussain Syed, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Nisar Ahmad Memon, Dr Muhammad Akbar Khawaja, Lieutenant General Javed Ashraf (Retd), Syed Dilawar Abbas, Mohammad Azam Khan Swati, Ms Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli, Waqar Ahmed Khan, Ilyas Ahmed Bilour, Mir Mohammad Naseer Mengal, Mohammad Abbas Komaili, Dr Shahzad Waseem, Mrs Roshan Khursheed Barucha and Chaudhary Mohammad Anwar Bhinder.
