Several hundred Majalis were held in the day and till late in the night at different Imambargahs and homes in Karachi city to pay tributes to the Martyrs of Karbala.
The TV channels including PTV and Geo ran special programmes highlighting the importance of the sacrifice for Islam's eternal glory that Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Holy Prophet gave at Karbala, fourteen hundreds ago.
Meanwhile, special security arrangements were enforced in mosques of the city for the month of Muharram and the coming Yaum-e-Ashur on March 2, 2004, for which all security personnel have been geared up.
The traffic arrangements for the 9th and 10th of Muharram have also been finalised while special passes for vehicles engaged in Ashura duty have been issued by the police.
