Women groups have largely hailed a suggestion forwarded by chairperson National Commission on Status of Women (NCSW) Justice Majida (Retd), to repeal the Hudood Ordinance.
Amna Mehwish, project co-ordinator, War Against Rape (WAR), in a press statement here on Saturday said, " the submission made through an NCSW report is reflective of the aspirations of all those who believe in equality of all people without any distinction on basis of gender, religion, status and class."
Expecting the government to come forward with a prompt and positive action, she reminded that a non-discrimination policy and equal rights for the women have been assured under the LFO.
"We hope the government will present a relevant bill, based on the very report, before the parliament for a decision," Amna said.
It was maintained that the ordinance had failed to offer solace to the victimised and on the contrary, emerged as a source of discrimination and contributory to false implication of resource-less women under the Zina Ordinance.
