Pakistan would follow a "horses for courses" policy, while naming the 14-member squad on March 5, for the first two one-day matches against India, chief cricket selector Wasim Bari said.
According to Bari, a player could be picked to play against India in the five-match series even if he was not selected for the ongoing conditioning camp at Lahore, being attended by 22 probables.
"It is not necessary that we restrict our selection to only those players who are in the camp. We are also watching those performing well in domestic cricket. We will basically follow a horses for courses policy," Bari was quoted as saying by the local media on Monday.
The decision means veteran fast bowler Waqar Younas, who was not selected for the ongoing camp, could be picked in the team for the series starting at Karachi on March 13.
Bari said the squad would only be announced for the first two games since Pakistan being the host, has the advantage of calling up any in-form player according to the requirements of the series.
Reports here said Bari and Miandad have been warned by PCB Chief Shaharyar Khan to refrain from giving too many statements in the press, which convey an impression that they were operating on different wavelength.
The chief selector said he was satisfied with the level of training and preparations being carried out at the national camp in Lahore.
"We will all be having a meeting with the PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan on Monday at Lahore to discuss the final phase of preparations for the series against India," Bari said.
He said the meeting would be attended by the chief executive Ramiz Raja, coach Javed Miandad, manager Haroon Rashid, captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and the selectors.
