A delegation of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) headed by its Chairman Mian Waqar Monnoo on Thursday met Collector (Enforcement) Khawaja Tanweer Ahmed to resolve problems of Aptma members.
Monnoo said that long term pendency of excessive amount of sales tax refunds was hampering smooth functioning of manufacturers represented by Aptma.
Collector said that refunds released in last seven months are higher by 30.29 percent as compared to that of same period of previous fiscal year. He showed willingness to discharge pendency of refund claims of Aptma members.
On request of Monnoo, he agreed to depute officer to attend day-to-day problems and handling refund claims of Aptma members. Abdul Kadir Memon, Deputy Collector Refunds, Enforcement Division, Karachi was nominated to co-ordinate with Aptma members.
Several problems relating to STARR programme were also brought to the notice of collector, who said errors committed by KPOs are due to excessive workload at data entry terminals. There are at least three designated branches of National Bank of Pakistan, which may be accessed online by refund division of Karachi region.
He asked concerned Aptma members to submit their monthly sales tax returns at any of these three branches which would enable them to process refund claims in efficient manner. Data collection and processing of refunds on advanced computer programme will start from July next, to effectively cater to needs of WTO.
