With a view to slash its system losses and to serve its consumers with smooth power supply, Water and Power Development Authority, (Wapda) is engaged in augmenting its transmission and distribution system.
A spokesman of Wapda said here on Friday that the authority has devised an integrated plan in this regard and quite a sizeable amount is being spent in the length and breadth of country through National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) and power distribution companies (Discos).
Wapda has planned to spend Rs 14,563 million on development and augmentation works in the power sector from its own resources during the fiscal year 2003-04, while an amount of Rs 10,780 million including Rs 8,280 million for transmission and Rs 2,500 million for distribution and system augmentation programme has also been allocated for Wapda power wing in Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2003-04.
According to the statistics, as many as 2,042 including 155 high tension (HT) and 1,887 low tension (LT) proposals have been accomplished by the distribution companies with an amount of Rs 790.5 million during the first half of the current fiscal year alone under social action programme (SAP).
The completion of said schemes resulted in saving 53.914 million electricity units (MKWH) amounting to Rs 179.1 million up to November 2003.
As per details, nine HT and 134 LT proposals in Lesco, 22 HT and 314 LT proposals in Gepco, 21 HT and 141 LT proposals in Fesco, 18 HT and 525 LT proposals in Iesco, 33 HT and 289 LT proposals in Mepco, 21 HT and 234 LT proposals in Pesco, 19 HT and 116 LT proposals in Hesco and 12 HT and 134 LT proposals were completed in Qesco up to December 2003.
In accordance with the details of NTDC development work, the company built six new 220 KV grid stations, three new 132 KV grid stations and three new 66 KV grid stations, converted one 66 KV grid station to 132 KV grid station, augmented thirteen 132 KV grid stations, two 66 KV grid stations and carried out extension works at four 220 KV, sixteen 132 KV and two 66 KV grid stations along with one 33 KV grid station up to December 31, 2003. In addition, NTDC also completed 35 percent work on 411 kilometre long 500 KV transmission lines, 36 percent of 537 kilometre long 220 KV transmission circuits, 47 percent of 450 kilometre long 132 KV transmission lines, 80 percent of 62 kilometre long 66 KV circuits and 95 percent of work on 33 KV capacity 74 kilometre transmission loops.
