Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Ellahi on Sunday announced a Rs 710 million package for Rawalpindi, besides making Kalar Syedan a Tehsil and approved appointment of 600 teachers to provide teachers to schools in Rawalpindi.
He also announced setting up of two Degree Colleges, one each for boys and girls, and a high school for Dhok Sayyedan.
The Chief Minister also approved 50 filtration plants for Rawalpindi, besides an IT institute for girls at Kohati Bazaar.
He made these announcements while addressing a public meeting at Dhok Sayedan. Besides the chief Minister, Federal Minister for Industries Liaqat Jatoi, Provincial Minister for Local Government Muhammad Basharat, senators, MNAs, and MPAs also spoke on the occasion.
Of the Rs 710 million development package, Rs 300 million is grant for Tehsil Administration to make sure implementation of development projects.
The CM will open the project of underpass at Committee Chowk for smooth flow of traffic. He also approved Rs 60 million for Park at the Old Jail site to provide better recreational facilities to the people of the city. He said that Rawalpindi Club would also be established in the park.
Pervaiz said that the government would provide sufficient funds for provision of furniture, libraries and laboratories to schools in Rawalpindi.
He promised early completion of Men's College at Peshawar Road and Sadiqabad to meet the requirement of the city.
He said that from April 10 Punjab government would announce provision of free books for students up to Class V.
The government has decided to give scholarship of Rs 200 per month to every female student up to primary class to attract parents to send their daughters for education", the CM said and added that this programme would be initiated in first phase in 15 districts of southern Punjab where literacy rate is very low.
He announced six buses for the girls colleges of Rawalpindi.
He said that his government has allocated Rs 15 billion each year for renovation, provision of furniture and lab and library equipment in schools. The programme would continue for 3 years.
He announced an amount of Rs 50 million for water supply to the civilian population of Rawalpindi Cantonment Board. He also announced 50 filtration plants for Rawalpindi city.
For provision of natural gas to remote areas of Rawalpindi he said that villages of Chak Beli Khan, Girja, Chakri, Chak Jalaldin, and Jorrian would very soon be provided natural gas.
He promised completion of sports stadiums at Shamsabad, Kalar Syedan and Dhaman Syedan to facilitate the youth to take part in health activities.
He said that an underpass would be constructed at every Chowk in Rawalpindi. A Ring Road would also be constructed in Rawalpindi. "I have directed Nespak to make the feasibility of the ring road in order to initiate this important project soon", he said.
The Chief Minister said that very soon a full-fledged university would be established in Rawalpindi.
Basharat thanked the Chief Minister for his visit and expressed hope that Rawalpindi would be given high priority as it had been ignored in the past.
Earlier, the Chief Minister opened three development projects including a Rs 85 million improvement and remodelling of Kalmia Chowk, construction and widening of the road from Dhok Syedan to Misreal Road and foundation of the building of Dhok Syedan Girls College.
