Pakistan and India on Tuesday commenced two-day technical talks for starting bus service between Khokhrapar and Munabhao.
Communications Ministry Joint Secretary Musaddaq Muhammad Khan led the Pakistani team, while Ministry of Road Transport and Highway Joint Secretary Alok Rawat head the Indian delegation.
Welcoming the Indian delegates, Musaddaq said that people-to-people contact has become possible due to confidence-building measures taken by the leadership of both the countries.
Such measures, he said, were showing encouraging results, and links between the people of both the countries were on the rise. After Lahore-New Delhi bus service, he said, technical level talks for starting Khokhrapar-Munabhao bus service would further enhance co-operation between the two neighbours.
Alok Rawat said that steps were underway for promoting co-operation in different sectors between India and Pakistan.
Besides railway service, he said, bus service between Lahore and New Delhi was also in progress. Opening of Khokhrapar-Munabhao bus service will undoubtedly facilitate the people of both the sides.
Besides bus service between Lahore and New Delhi, air and railway services have also been restored.
There is a great demand to further enhance such links for the promotion of tourism, sports, culture and trade between the two countries.
The visiting delegates also called on federal Communications Secretary Iftikhar Rashid. Talking to the delegation, Iftikhar said that technical level talks between the two countries would prove useful.
He said opening of Khokhrapar-Munabhao bus service would greatly facilitate the people of both the sides, particularly the inhabitants of interior Sindh, including Sukkur, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas Umerkot and Karachi.
He said that the bus service would also boost economic activity in the area.
