A team of Iranian quarantine experts will arrive here on Wednesday to hold meetings with the citrus exporters.
According to officials of Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Board (PHDEB) here on Tuesday, the major objective of the team's visit was to see citrus processing facilities in Pakistan especially in the citrus belt ie the districts of Sargodha and Khushab and discuss the possibilities of importing Pakistani kinnoos.
Iran is presently importing kinnoos and other citrus fruit from the Mediterranean region's countries like Turkey and Egypt.
The opening of Iran's market for kinnoos can help Pakistani horticultural products to have access even to the markets of Central Asia," Chief Executive Officer (CEO), PHDEB Shamoon Sadiq told APP.
Pakistan's total horticultural exports are presently hovering around a meagre figure of 126 million dollars against the total world fruit and vegetable trade of 77 billion dollars.
The Iranian quarantine experts will visit Bhalwal on March 11 (Thursday) to see citrus processing facilities there.
The team will visit PARS, the facility engaged in the enhancement of shelf life of the fresh produce through radiation treatment before leaving for Teheran en-route Karachi on March 12.
