Pakistan and Italy would soon sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance the ties in academic fields.
This was stated by the Consul General of Italy in Karachi, Bruno A. Basquino. He was speaking at the award of certificates to the successful participants of the two-year diploma course of Italian language at Karachi University on Wednesday. The ceremony was presided over by the Vice-chancellor of Karachi University, Professor Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui.
The Consul General was of the view that the MoU would benefit the teachers, students as well the scientists of the two countries. There will also be exchange of faculty and students programme.
He said that the students of Karachi University are quite talented and capable and that co-operation would be extended in the fellowship programme and the process of issuance of visas would be facilitated. The Consul General also spoke of the significance of Pakistan in the region.
Vice-chancellor of Karachi University, Professor Dr Pirzada spoke about the importance of Italian language in the global perspective.
He said that learning of Italian language would bring the people of Pakistan and Italy closer and would help enhance their cultural ties as well.
The vice-chancellor was of the view that the exchange of faculty would provide opportunities for study of each other's culture and society, which would foster understanding and friendship.
The Incharge of the Italian Language Center at Karachi University, Dr Laura Fioretta, also spoke on the occasion.
