Five suspected freedom fighters and a civilian were killed and six civilians injured in the latest burst of violence in occupied Kashmir, police said on Sunday.
The suspected freedom fighters died during three separate clashes in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch overnight and on Sunday, police said.
"All the three encounters erupted during cordon-and-search operations launched by Indian occupation army and police," a police spokesman said. "The identities of the freedom fighters are being ascertained."
Violence has continued in occupied Kashmir despite peace moves by India and Pakistan aimed at ending their more than half-century-old dispute over the divided Himalayan region.
Police said suspected freedom fighters shot dead a civilian after abducting him from his house overnight in the southern district of Pulwama.
No freedom fighter group has claimed responsibility for the killing.
Meanwhile, six people, including three children, were injured on Sunday in the northern occupied Kashmir district of Kupwara when an abandoned explosive device blew up, police said.
Two boys were in serious condition, police said.
