Both the new computerised and the old national identity cards (NICs) are valid for identification of voters for the forthcoming local government by-elections.
Chief Election Commissioner Chief Justice Irshad Hasan Khan (Retd) issued notification on Sunday in this regard, along with detailed voting procedure for these elections.
According to the notification, the National Identity Cards issued under the National Registration Act-1973, and the computerised National Identity Cards issued by the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) under the National Database and Registration Authority Ordinan-ce-2000 are valid for the identification of the voters at the polling stations to vote in the forthcoming local bodies by-elections.
The by-elections are being held to fill the vacant seats in the provinces in March and April this year.
