Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao on Sunday expressed hope that the friendly momentum in Pakistan-India relations would lead to peace and development in South Asia.
"We look with pleasure the strong and friendly momentum that has emerged in India and Pakistan relations," he said at a news conference here at the Great Hall of the People at the end of annual session of the National People Congress (NPC).
When asked about China's relations with India, he said he looked with pleasure that Pakistan and India are heading towards friendly relations. "We hope to see peace and stability in South Asia."
Earlier, in his work report presented before the NPC, Premier Jiabao said China would continue its policy of friendship and partnership with its neighbouring countries including Pakistan.
He said: "We are prepared to work together safeguarding regional peace and stability."
He said he looked forward to gradual settlement of existing differences among the regional countries through dialogue and consultation on equal footing. "China will continue to hold high the banner of peace, development and co-operation, unswervingly pursue an independent foreign policy of peace, adhere to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence," he said.
