City Nazim Naimat-ullah Khan has said that there must be no controversy between provincial and district governments as they have different powers, jurisdiction and nature of work.
"Masses should be told to approach Nazims for the problems of their areas instead of senators and members of national and provincial assemblies, whose actual job is legislation," he said, while speaking to the participants of a course of National Defence College, at a dinner hosted by the City Government on Saturday night.
Saying that he had been Amir of the Jamaat-i-Islami, Karachi he asserted that he had served masses during last two-and-a-half years setting aside his former political affiliation.
"There are six Town Nazims, who do not enjoy support of the Jamaat-i-Islami, but they have no problem with me," he said, adding, "I give equal funds to all union councils while women councillors are also given development funds on the basis of equality."
The City Nazim said that either there was no infrastructure in industrial areas or had been destroyed at the time when the City Government was incepted. He said that the City Government had started work for infrastructure development in industrial areas, which would cost Rs 2.5 billion. Besides, he said, PC-I of more than Rs 2billion had been approved for improvement of sewerage system in the city.
He said work had been initiated to resolve water and sewerage problems in 538 katcha abadis of Karachi. But, he said, in the presence of Katcha Abadi Authority, all of their problems could not be resolved.
He asserted that roads were being constructed in Karachi as per international standards now and added that none of the roads constructed by the City Government was damaged during stormy rains.
UPLIFT WORKS: "The number of development works carried out in last two-and-a-half years are unmatched in the earlier 15 years because the masses had elected an honest leadership," he stated. "The City Government completed many big projects with quality work, in short duration and saved millions."
