The intelligence cells (Karachi division) of the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department, in a raid, recovered 1,948 kilogram of high quality Charas worth Rs 2 billion in international market, and arrested three drug-traffickers from the city.
The raid was a part of the ongoing anti-narcotics campaign initiated by Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Rauf Siddiqui.
Sindh Excise and Taxation Director-General Asif Marghoob Siddiqui said on receiving a secret information, Sindh Intelligence Office In-charge Abdul Haee Dhamra and Inspector Muhammad Saleh Kerio along with their team raided Bungalow No. 92-A, Block-C of North Nazimabad Area of the city at around 2330 hours last Saturday.
They dug out the huge quantity of Charas from secret store room and cavities, which was to be smuggled abroad.
The squad also arrested three accused identified as Shams-ur-Rahman Pathan, Abdul Samad Pathan and Mateen Kamal Ansari on the spot. They seized a passport of Shamas-ur-Rahman Pathan, which was issued in September 2003.
During initial interrogation, Shams confessed that he was preparing to leave abroad after forwarding this consignment.
The accused Shams Pathan is wanted by Excise Police in another case of drug-trafficking as well.
Another accused Mateen Kamal Ansari, who is also owner of the house, said Shams Pathan and Abdul Samad Pathan brought the consignment there. Further investigation is in progress.
Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Rauf Siddiqui has commended the efficiency of Excise and Taxation Secretary Subhan Memon, Sindh Excise and Taxation Director-General Asif Marghoob Siddiqui, Director Abdul Haee Dhamra, Inspector Muhammad Saleh Kerio and other staff, who risked the adventure to save the human being and the country from bad name.
