The present government should declare the agenda of Colin Powell's visit to Pakistan and the entire nation be taken into confidence on this issue because he is visiting Pakistan under his ulterior motive and he wants to get to roll back the nuclear programme, but nation would not let Pervez Musharraf and his government do so, warned Qazi Hussain Ahmed, chief of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) while talking to newsmen at Press Club's programme 'Guftagu' on Monday.
"US Secretary of State Colin Powell is visiting Pakistan with very aggressive and dangerous designs and the Pervez Musharraf government should take the Parliament/nation into confidence on the issue of his agenda of talk and we warn the rulers that the nation would not let them roll back the nuclear programme in any case," Qazi said.
"General Pervez Musharraf should announce his retirement from Army and he must nominate his 'Ja-Nasheen' who would serve as Chief of Army Staff (COAS) during the next two or three months," he said.
He said he was confident that Zafarullah Khan Jamali and Shujaat would soon take over the charge of the government, and it would be their test how can they tackle this situation, because General Pervez Musharraf has no legal or moral right or power to interfere in the affairs of the government after the approval of 17th constitutional amendment.
He said: "We admit the right of majority party to rule the country and majority should not be an outcome of horse trading, changing the loyalties and induction of turncoats."
Qazi said that National Security Council is no more a part of the constitution and now there is no political role of the armed forces in the constitution. National Security Council has now merely an advisory/consultative role.
He said that protest camps of 15-20 activists of ARD cannot oust General Pervez Musharraf and ARD cannot achieve its objective without the support of MMA.
He said that MMA would continue the protest against military operation in Wana and raids on religious seminaries and arrest of nuclear scientists and technologists because it is interference in the affairs of a civilian government and this practice is not in the interest of nation and the country.
He said that arrest of scientists had badly discouraged the new scientists who were studying nuclear technology and now they are thinking to adopt other fields.
Qazi said that there was no split or differences in MMA and it is united and stronger like very first day. "We have removed all misunderstandings with Professor Sajid Mir and Sami-ul-Haq and we vowed to continue our mission together."
He said that Indo-Pak relations could not be established without resolving the Kashmir issue and this situation would also hit the trade ties.
Opposing the handing over of entire system of higher education to Aga Khan University by 2006, he said that the present regime wants to keep away the young generation from 'Jihad', Islamic Ideology and ideology of Pakistan and to give secular education to them.
He said that poor students cannot acquire education in Aga Khan University and doors of higher education would be shut for the poor in future with the privatisation of education.
He said: "What a pity that Federal Minister for Education Zubaida Jalal is a cabinet member of Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali but she submits her report to President General Pervez Musharraf, bypassing her boss.
Consequently, the Prime Minister is not aware of any change in the academic system." He said that "we do not oppose the supply of computers to the religious seminaries but we oppose any restrictions on these institutions".
Five 'Wifaqs' of religious institutions have rejected the government aid unanimously.
Qazi said that "we have no differences with MQM, nor is it our rival group or party". He said that all political parties would have to join hands to check the way of army in the politics and for restoration of the constitution in its real shape.
