Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Monday announced the formulation of industrial development boards for all industrial estates of the city having representation from the respective industrial estate.
The boards will come into effect within next 15 days.
He also announced the setting up of an industrial advisory committee with representatives from all industrial estates and trade associations of the city to increased liaison between the government and business community aimed at facilitating industrial growth through provision of better infrastructure and other facilities and simplification of government departments procedures to make local industries competitive in the post WTO regime.
The Governor, while addressing the business community at a luncheon hosted for him by Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (Kati), said that these committees would not only meant to find solutions to the problems facing the industries but to work for further improvement in law and order and finalising development projects and schemes for the city. He ordered the District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Karachi, Mir Hussain Ali to get construction work restarted on the main Landhi and Korangi road within next two weeks without waiting for the release of funds allocated for the project.
The Governor issued these orders on pointation by Chairman Kati, Mian Zahid Hussain that the road construction work was formally inaugurated some two months earlier and the earth was also dug for the purpose, however, the process remained suspended since the very next day for unknown reasons.
Dr Ishratul Ibad on the occasion announced the establishment of Police Welfare Fund for which the business community of Karachi volunteered to contribute.
The fund would be utilised under the supervision of a committee of government's senior officers including inspector general of police and the business communities' representatives.
Earlier, Patron-in-Chief of Kati, S. M. Muneer pointed out to the Governor that the community had given donations in hundreds of thousands rupees to be used as compensation to the families of those policemen who are killed while performing their duties. However he alleged that the money so far had not been disbursed to any of such family.
