The Hong Kong dollar extended gains on Tuesday, taking its cue from the Japanese yen's rise against the US dollar and as some players continued to unwind long USD positions.
The Hong Kong unit shuffled between 7.7915 and 7.7930 per US dollar throughout the day. It was at 7.7921/22 firming from late Monday's 7.7938/39 and a five-and-a-half-month low of 7.7965 hit last Friday.
