The Union of Small & Medium Enterprises (Unisame) has drawn the attention of the Government of Pakistan to the non-availability of statistics on various crops.
SMEs are badly affected by the non-availability of data on various subjects of interest and have regretted the fact that to get information on production and yield of rice, wheat, pulses, cotton, sugarcane, and spices they have to refer to foreign trade associations and commodity brokerage houses who hold more information on Pakistan than "what we have".
Zulfikar Thaver, Convener of Unisame, termed this situation as extremely embarrassing, "specially when we are provided incomplete information" on very important aspects of cultivation and disposal.
He emphasised the need for supplying timely and correct information on all commodity items and requested the rice, wheat, cane, cotton commissioners to impart proper information to the respective trade associations in good time.
The Federal Bureau of Statistics should also issue endorsed statements to the concerned authorities and financial institutions, he stressed.
