Sindh Abadgar Board President Abdul Majeed Nizamani has criticised the statement of Rahim Janoo that Pakistan is planning to buy 0.5 million tonnes of rice from India to meet its export commitments in June when the domestic stock would be low.
He termed it contradictory to the facts.
A Pakistani rice exporters delegation has recently visited India.
He told newsmen that Janoo has also misquoted the statement of Sindh Balochistan Rice Millers and Traders Association chairman before a traders gathering in Mumbai despite the fact that the Rice Millers and Traders Association chairman has categorically stated that a surplus of over 0.75 million tonnes of coarse variety rice is available for export.
Janoo's statement that the country lacks surplus rice for export purposes is totally false and baseless aimed at impairing the interest of Pakistani rice exporters and traders.
He appealed to the federal government to direct the Commerce Ministry and Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) to prevent Rahim Janoo from importing Indian rice to earn extra profit at the cost of Pakistani rice producers and traders as his efforts would have negative impact on the commodity's production in the country.
