The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has approved Rs 30 million scheme for construction of Academic Block-II at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), Rawalpindi.
In this regard the departmental development working party (DDWP) of HEC after its meeting has given the final approval of the scheme here on Thursday.
At present about 2,500 students are enrolled and receiving training and education in existing 13 different programmes including Islamic Studies, English, Education, MBA, MPA, MCS, Environmental Science, Behavioral Science, Communication Studies, Fine Arts, Economics, Defence and Diplomatic Studies, B.Sc. Software Engineering, and BCA.
The number of students is expected to increase to 3,000 in current academic year as more women will avail this opportunity to benefit from highly professional programmes being offered by the women university.
With the proposed set up, teaching and research facilities in these subjects would be upgraded as follows to meet the need of human resource development.
Through the project, eight classrooms, lecturer theatre, one conference room, one multipurpose room, two labs, one software room and seven rooms for faculty would be constructed and equipped within the campuses of FJWU.
The FJWU aims at promoting higher education especially among young women as per policy of the government for providing opportunity to women folk.
With implementation of the scheme the job-oriented training would be provided to women, which would lead to improvement in financial and economic capability of the country as a whole.
Masters and Ph.D. programmes are so designed to correspond with the expertise and requirements available at the university.
So the contributions of this university would be helpful in achieving national scientific and technological goals and bring Pakistani women at par with women around the world and enhancing their inputs on economics and technological front.
The scheme would not only enable faculty and students of various specialisation of the programmes to make use of sophistical and precision equipment for their conduct of research but also would be helpful in strengthening the collaboration with the national and international universities and institutions to offer online courses in the fields in which the FJWU is facing problems due to lack of trained facilities.
The scheme would also lead to the expansion of undergraduate ongoing programmes and initiation of new programmes such as English, Economics and Environmental Sciences, which are going to be introduced in the university.
