Denmark's thriving shipping industry has ordered 123 ships for delivery in the next four years boosting the size of the fleet to a new record high, a Danish shipping industry group said on Tuesday.
Historically, around 80 percent of these ships will be included in the Danish fleet, he said, adding that most of the shipping demand came from China and India.
Sources close to the association said Denmark's largest private enterprise, oil and shipping group A. P. Moeller-Maersk had ordered 70 of these ships.
By 1998, Denmark's shipping exports had outgrown the country's large agricultural exports and in 2003, the value of shipping exports had reached 100 billion crowns of Denmark's total around 600 billion crown exports.
The Danish Shipowners' Association is an employer and trade organisation representing Denmark's shipping industry. It's members include A. P. Moeller-Maersk, DFDS and Scandlines Denmark.
