Pakistan has been consistently improving its share in the US apparel market during the last three years and its export volume has been increasing.
The data, compiled by the US Department of Commerce, indicated that the volume of apparel from Pakistan had increased from 10.10 percent in 2002 to 16.10 percent in 2003.
Consequently, Pakistan's share in the US apparel market had improved from 2.15 percent in 2001 to 2.21 percent in 2002 and to 2.35 percent in 2003, it said.
"In contrast, India's apparel exports to the US has gone down from 26.29 percent in 2002 to 4.59 percent in 2003. Its share in the US apparel market declined from 2.95 percent in 2002 to 2.82 percent in 2003," said the data.
According to the data, Pakistan's performance is better than a few countries like Turkey and Sri Lanka whose share in the US apparel market is 1.98 percent and 2.09 percent respectively in 2003.
Despite a decline in export of apparel, Bangladesh's share in the US market was 4.84 percent in 2003, as against six percent in 2001.
China took the top position on the table for its 12.14 percent share in the US market in 2003, improved from 6.08 percent in 2001 followed by Mexico 10.48 percent, Honduras 6.11 percent with Bangladesh, Salvador and Hong Kong each over four percent share of the market.
The countries having market share ranging between 3.9 percent and 3.05 percent include Dominican Republic, Vietnam, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Korean Republic.
Countries falling in the bracket of two percent and more share in the market are Philippine (2.89 percent), India (2.82 percent), Cambodia (2.80 percent), Thailand (2.63 percent), Guatemala (2.36 percent), Pakistan (2.35 percent) and Sri Lanka (2.09 percent).
The continent-wise share of the US apparel market put the CBI continent on top with 20.78 percent share followed by Asia 17.58 percent, Sub-Sahara 2.11 percent and Andean 1.09 percent.
