Ms Cecilia A. Ogwal, leader of a 15-member high-powered business delegation and member of the Ugandan Parliament, has urged the business community of Pakistan to provide technical assistance and establish joint venture industrial units in textile sector.
Speaking at meeting of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), she said that the purpose of this visit is to pursue the Pakistani business community to come forward and provide Ugandan business community necessary technical assistance in the filed of agriculture development, textile, leather and other sectors as well as establish industrial units in joint venture.
She informed the meeting that Uganda produces huge quantity of cotton, hides and has vast land and but does not have the capability to utilise it for economic growth.
She further said: "Uganda wants to develop small and medium enterprises to absorb its unemployed youth."
Ms. Cecilia A. Ogwal, further said that "another purpose of this visit is to study Pakistan's progress in different fields, including agriculture, textile, leather, etc.
She noted that Uganda offers the best investment environment in the region.
Earlier Arshad Alam, Vice-President FPCCI, assured the maximum co-operation from Pakistani businessmen and entrepreneurs for the exploitation of Uganda's natural Resources, including cotton.
He said: "I am shocked to learn that animal hides and skin, which are a big natural wealth, are being wasted and thrown away in Uganda and other African countries."
His company imported hides and skin from Uganda but it was not acceptable as they are sun-dried.
Tariq Sayeed, in charge Permanent Secretariat of G-77 Chamber of Commerce & Industry, briefed the Ugandan delegation about the itinerary of the delegation's visits and meetings in Pakistan being arranged by G-77 Chamber.
