The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued notices to federal and provincial governments in a petition filed by Watan Party against the appointment of five additional judges in the LHC.
The court adjourned the proceedings, as the law officer sought time to seek instructions from the respondents.
The petitioner contended that appointment of the respondent judges was made in violation of merit and Supreme Court's judgement pertaining to appointments of the judges in higher courts.
It was prayed to the court to declare appointments of the respondent judges as illegal, unconstitutional and without lawful authority.
LHC ADMITS PETITIONS: LHC on Thursday admitted some identical petitions for regular hearing filed by ad-hoc lecturers praying to the court to direct the respondents to regularise their services as lecturers.
The petitioners contended that the respondent government appointed them on ad-hoc basis against permanent seats, which was illegal and without lawful authority.
The court, after hearing their counsel at length, admitted the petitions for regular hearing and issued notices to the respondents.
Former DIG allowed protective bail
LHC has allowed protective bail to former DIG Gujranwala range Malik Iqbal till April 05 to enable him to get confirmed his bail from the trial court.
The petitioner contended that he wanted to get confirmed his bail from the trial court.
He prayed to the court to allow him protective bail so as to enable him to appear before the trial court.
The court, after hearing the petitioner's counsel at length, allowed him protective bail till April 05.
The applicant is facing the charge of mishandling the Sialkot jail hostage incident in which three judges were killed.
