A unit of Royal Dutch/Shell Group on Friday said it plans to sell its Gulf of Mexico natural gas pipeline business as part of the oil major's review of its portfolio of assets.
Houston-based Shell US Gas & Power LLC said it owns or has an interest in 17 natural gas pipelines in the Gulf of Mexico that are in operation or under construction, with a total capacity of almost 9 billion cubic feet per day.
The assets for sale are in the western, central and eastern segments of the Gulf.
Not included are some pipelines that serve Shell production facilities, the company said in a statement. The sale is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
"Shell Gas Transmission's extensive natural gas pipeline network is well positioned in all producing corridors in the Gulf of Mexico," said Gus Noojin, president and chief executive of Shell US Gas & Power, in a statement.
