UK Tehreek-e-Kashmir President Mohammad Ghalib has sought support of British Prime Minister Tony Blair to support Kashmiris call on India not to hold elections of the Indian Parliament in occupied Kashmir, as it remained a disputed territory.
Ghalib, in a letter addressed to Tony Blair, said that elections were not acceptable to the Kashmiris as long as the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir were allowed choose their political destiny through a fair and independent referendum.
"The elections would be devoid of any political benefit to Delhi, more so if you could lend your voice against it," said his letter to the British prime minister.
He said Kashmiris as well as many in the UK and the world believe that according to UN resolution, Kashmir is not part of India, adding the UN resolutions call for a plebiscite to determine the right to self-determination of the people of occupied Kashmir.
Ghalib said: "Kashmir continues to be an internationally accepted dispute, whose political future has still to be decided, and this issue has to be resolved according to the wishes of people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir."
The holding of elections to the Indian Parliament in occupied Kashmir will violate the international laws and agreements.
Ghalib said recently, four Early Day Motions (EDMs) were adopted by the members of Parliament which welcomed the recent peace initiative by both India and Pakistan to settle their outstanding issues, including Kashmir.
These EDMs, signed by more than hundred MPs, with cross-party support, called for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir problem by India and Pakistan - a resolution acceptable to the people of occupied Kashmir, said his letter.
