Keeping in view the people's problems and ensure transparency in process, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Chief Justice Irshad Hasan Khan (Retd) has extended the date for revision of electoral rolls from April 14 to 30 as he initiated the process of revision of Electoral Rolls since January 01 this year.
The CEC has also directed the Revising Authorities to dispose of claims, objections and applications for correction, in accordance with law by May 15.
He appointed the revising authorities amongst the Judges of the subordinate judiciary in consultation with the Chief Justices of the High Courts.
The electoral rolls are being revised and corrected in the prescribed manner to include the name of any qualified person whose name does not appear on such roll, to delete the name of any person who has died or who is or has become disqualified for enrolment and for correcting any entry or for supplying any omission in such roll.
The CEC emphasised that the electoral process was the soul of democracy and one of the crucial questions relating thereto was the problem of registration of citizens as voters in the electoral rolls, particularly those who had attained the age of 18 years on January, 01, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 and updation of an error free voters' list.
The Election Commission, in order to facilitate the eligible voters to get themselves enrolled as voters, who have not been enrolled so far and to delete the name of any person who has died or if there were double entries.
An application on the prescribed form may be made as early as possible to the Revising Authorities for deletion or correction of such entries.
The Election Commission has appealed to the general public to approach to the revising authorities with copies of death certificates for deletion of the names of the deceased persons so that orders for deletion of names of such persons be made accordingly.
