The story of Shell in the subcontinent began over a 100 years ago, back in 1899 when the Asiatic Petroleum Company, the far eastern marketing arm of two companies: the Shell Transport Company and the Royal Dutch Petroleum Company, began importing kerosene oil from Azerbaijan into the subcontinent.
Its evolution into the company it is today is a fascinating story unto itself. Shell Pakistan's illustrious journey started in February 1993 when the Shell Petroleum Company purchased 51% of the shares to become the majority shareholder in the company. Today, the Shell Petroleum Company has 76% shares in Shell Pakistan Ltd.

Shell Pakistan is involved in refining, transportation & marketing of petroleum products.
The company also has 67% equity in Shell Gas Pakistan, whose principal business are storing, filling & marketing of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, & is a pioneer in the Pakistan Market.
Shell Pakistan enjoys a 30% stake in Pakistan Refinery Limited as well as 26% in PAPCO - Pak-Arab Pipeline Company.
Shell Companies in Pakistan also include Shell Development & Offshore Pakistan, involved mainly in oil & gas exploration & production.
Shell indirectly or directly supports livelihood of 25,000 people. It is one of the largest revenue collectors on behalf of the government. 35% of the company's total revenue comprises government taxes and levies, contributing over Rs 27 billion annually to the national exchequer.
More than 99 percent of employees in all Shell companies in Pakistan are Pakistani - we are thus a truly Pakistani company.

Road safety is an urgent problem in Pakistan, each year horrific accidents take place and fatalities run high. Shell Pakistan sets new standards in safety.
We have trained over 10,000 drivers in the past seven years in Defensive Driving techniques. Driver training courses are regularly held at all main installations.
Shell Pakistan has pioneered eye screening, drug testing programmes and rehabilitation for tank lorry drivers.
Over 15,000 retail attendants work at Shell sites. Our elementary Education Programme for retail attendants aims at improving their reading & writing skills.
